Behind the Zines began as a column, written by Billy McCall, for a zine called Cuneiform. A few times a year he would interview zinesters, review zines, and talk about the culture of zine-making. He wrote 6 of these pieces.
He eventually realized he wanted more than just a column, so instead of a 7th column, he expanded BTZ into its own zine. (Thus, BTZ #7 is the first true "issue" of Behind the Zines, released in Jan of 2019.) It now comes out twice a year, in March and September.
In the summer of 2022, Billy started Behind the Zines Distro, to help his awesome friends sell their awesome zines.
